Tuesday’s writing task
Each day this week, we’ll load up a fun poetry task for you to use in conjunction with the poetry competition prompts, which are designed to help you get inspiration for your entry.
Tuesday’s task: Blackout Poem
Instructions:
Take a page from a magazine, newspaper or old book and ‘find’ a poem from within the text that is already there. You might do this by circling some words, or by blacking out others.
Having a theme in mind can help you find the words you want to use and luckily we’ve provided you with some. See if you can find a page that relates to one of the prompts in your category. These poems can be silly, sad or serious - let the original text help you.
If you need some more inspiration, there are some amazing examples online. Check out Austin Kleon who uses newspapers or have a scroll through Blackout poems on Insta.
You can decorate the remainder of the page (the text you’re not using) in any way you like.
Here’s an example of a blackout poem by Chris Lott. He’s used a text by F Scott Fitzgerald.
